Israeli occupation forces killed a Palestinian during a raid in the northern West Bank, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced. Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced that its members were attacked during a raid in the city.
Salah Savafta, 58, died this morning in the city of Tubas from serious injuries after he was shot in the head by members of the Israeli army, the Palestinian ministry said in a statement.
Mayor Hosam Daragmeh said Savafta was leaving morning prayers when he was shot. “He left the mosque and was walking towards his house in a prayer robe. A soldier was stationed in a building near the municipality and shot him in the head,” he said. He added that Savafta was unarmed. He was allegedly shot just before entering the store.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced that its soldiers were attacked during a raid in the city. During the operation in Tubas, several suspects reportedly threw Molotov cocktails and fired at Israeli soldiers, who returned fire, the army said in a statement, adding that “the attackers have been identified.” They also announced that five people were detained in night raids on the West Bank.
On Thursday, the Israeli army killed a 20-year-old Palestinian in clashes in the city of Nablus in the northern West Bank. 31 people were injured in the clashes.
The Israeli army conducts almost daily raids and arrests in towns and villages in the occupied West Bank, often killing or injuring Palestinians.
Tuesday marked 100 days since an Israeli soldier killed well-known Al Jazeera journalist Shirin Abu Akleh during a raid in Jenin, in the northern West Bank.
According to Al Jazeera, citing data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Israel has already killed 134 Palestinians in the occupied territories this year. This figure also includes 49 people killed during the recent three-day offensive in Gaza, when 17 children were also killed.
This year, 19 people were killed in Palestinian attacks in Israel and the West Bank.
The West Bank has been under Israeli military occupation since 1967, and Israel has so far settled more than 600,000 Jewish settlers there in illegal settlements, in violation of international law. East Jerusalem and Gaza are also under Israeli occupation.
