The Flight of Minerva in the City of God

The rule of power or the power of rules? Under this title, which flies in the face of the now very unpredictable international environment and the need to redefine the international system, the largest Slovenian annual foreign policy event, the Bled Strategic Forum (BSF), started yesterday.

The diplomatic days begun with the traditional opening conversation of the leaders on Monday afternoon, when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who already addressed the National Assembly in July, addressed the participants via video link.

Before that, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the country, Borut Pahor, gave opening speeches, his for the last time in this role.

There will be 23 discussions in Bled over two days with more than 160 participants. Today, there will be another one-hour conversation with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and yesterday, a night session was held with philosopher Slavoj Žižek.

Slavoj Žižek is a Philosopher and Psychoanalytic social theorist. He is Senior Researcher at the Department of Philosophy, University of Ljubljana; Professor at the School of Law and Director of the Institute for the Humanities at Birkbeck, University of London; Distinguished Scholar at the Kyung Hee University, Seoul; and Visiting Professor at the German Department, New York University.

His field of work comprises Lacanian psychoanalytic theory, dialectical-materialist metaphysical interpretations of German Idealism and Marxian critique of ideology.

His more than sixty books in English have been widely translated. Recent publications include Hegel in a Wired Brain, Sex and the Failed Absolute, Like A Thief In Broad Daylight, Reading Marx, Incontinence of the Void, The Day After the Revolution, Heaven in Disorder, Reading Hegel and Surplus-Enjoyment.
